2019 Junior Girl Squash Player of the Year (Growcott trophy)

Petra - winners girls playerThe 2019 contenders were Petra-Curd McCullough (Christchurch Football), Casey Ellery (Greymouth) & Leonie Marshall (Marlborough SR)
  • 1st: Petra-Curd McCullough
  • 2nd Leonie Marshall
  • 3rd Casey Ellery
Choosing between 1st and 2nd place, was an extremely tough decision as both Petra and Leonie have had an amazing year.
 
Petra’s achievements include:  
  • South Island U15 Champion
  • 5th U15 NZ Individual Championships 
  • Played No.2 for Canterbury Junior National Team 
  • Was selected to represented NZ at the Secondary Schools Trans-Tasman and played No.2 in the Junior Team 
  • Represented Canterbury at the South Island Quadrangular Tournament, playing No.1 for the Junior Team and at the South Island Age Group Teams Event, playing No.1 in the Girl’s U15 Team
  • 23rd at the AON
  • Junior, and B grade Champion at Christchurch Football Squash Club
  • New Zealand Squad member
Leonie’s achievements include;
  • Canterbury U17 Champion
  • North Island Junior U17 Champion and runner-up at the South Island Championships 
  • 6th U17 NZ Individual Championships
  • No. 1 Canterbury Junior National Team
  • Was selected to represented NZ at the Secondary Schools Trans-Tasman Senior Team as a non-travelling reserve 
  • 17th AON
  • Marlborough Junior Open Champion
  • Runner-up it the Women’s Marlborough Squash Racket Club Open Club Champs 
  • New Zealand Squad Member 
  • Recently named in World Elite Girls team for 2020
As you can see, they both have had an amazing year and congratulations to both. However, the panel had to make a choice, which was an extremely hard decision and the panel agreed that Petra won by the tiniest of margins. 
 
casey elleryIn third place, Casey Ellery has had some awesome achievements and is one to watch! Congratulations.
Casey has competed in many competitions out of Canterbury including many South Island, and a national competition. Casey Ellery has achieved outstanding results this year within the under 11 Girl’s age group. Her achievements include; 
  • U11 South Island Champ
  • 4th in New Zealand U11
  • Played No.1 for Canterbury U11 Girls at the South Island Age Groups Teams event,
  • U11 Canterbury Junior Champion
  • 2nd Greymouth Junior Club Champs
  • 2nd West Coast Junior Open
