Odering and Sim take Canterbury squash titles

Top seed Adam Odering and second seed Emma Sim have come through to win the Squash

Canterbury Open Championships’ men’s and women’s titles respectively. Playing on their home courts at Christchurch Football Club, Odering and Sim capped off a successful weekend of squash for the Football Club, winning five out of the seven divisions. After a tough first round match, Odering came through the draw fairly comfortably and met third seed Matt Smith in the final. Spectators were treated to a tight tussle with Odering prevailing 13-11 in the fourth game. The women’s final went right down to the wire with Sim coming back from two games down to hold out West Coast and top seed Erin Ellery 15-6 in the fifth. A great two weeks for Sim, who took out the Burnside Open the previous weekend. Two promising juniors battled out the men’s division two final, with Blenheim’s Ben Roughan triumphing over Temwa Chileshe 15-7 in the fourth. This is excellent preparation for next weekend’s South Island Age Group event in Oamaru.
